QUEEN OF PROOF

Apuleius Plinio Mendoza

By Plinio Mendoza Apuleius

The worst that can happen in front of a monumental injustice to let the country forget it. It happens. We do not like dramas. We are tired of them. Hence it is always more appealing to readers to mention the surprises of the World Cup or developments that we expect the new government of Juan Manuel Santos. Instead, they should find that one becomes a bore on the case of Colonel Luis Alfonso Plazas Vega. But the truth is that there are new light on the atrocity of a judgment that now sentenced to 30 years in prison. And nothing to do: it is a conscious commitment to point them out.

Of all the notes have been written about this case is one of special relevance to many readers of this newspaper not to know. The Poder magazine published journalist Claudia Morales. With utmost objectivity she collects testimony so strong that, if given credit, too well justified the judgment of Judge Maria Stella Jara. It comes from a former army corporal named Edgar Villamizar. According to him, was in Granada (Meta) in Vargas Battalion, when the November 5, 1985 was transferred with 14 men to Bogotá to help the military forces trying to restore the courthouse, taken by the M- 19.

Villamizar said that after two days of hot action had been referred to the Cavalry School. And there, according to him, saw the hostages who had been brought there from the Plaza de Bolivar. And says he heard the chilling order that came from the lips of Colonel Plazas Vega: "Hang those hp". Villamizar claims to have witnessed how the hostages were hung from their hands, tortured with blows to the stomach and electrically charged wires and how, finally, their bodies were buried in a hole in the School, after removing from there to a dead horse.

We have to keep reminding the world the injustices of our justice

This was the ultimate proof that motivated the decision. What else might be needed? Well, something ignored Judge Maria Stella Jara. Claudia Morales picks up something in your letter carefully. With stealth, without being subjected to interrogation, he signed with another name Villamizar his statement: Edgar Villarreal. But then it could be established that he and 14 men were sent from the Battalion Vargas, Meta, to Bogota. Never been requested in the capital or the transfer was ordered by the battalion commander. There never was in the Army more Jairus Alzate Avendaño (name Villamizar cited as the author of that order).

In addition, the Cavalry School course never received the contingent, except that then had no landing field for helicopters. And most conclusive: a co-Villamizar, Petty Officer Gustavo Alonso Velasquez, said that he was with those three crucial days in the infirmary of the Battalion, in Granada. "I could not move and I had the same food Villamizar he declared. Together we saw on television what was happening in Bogota. "

After learning in detail this farce (behind which you see the shadow of the insatiable enemies Places: guerrillas, drug traffickers, he expropriated by law or collective mamertos experts make state crimes), one fully accepts the message sent by Thania , the wife of the soldier, the judge Jara, now based in Germany: "You relied on the testimony of a witness ghost, which neither you nor the defense were, because they never appear at the hearing and whose testimony is four sheets full of lies, which even his signature is authentic. Your Honor, you sentenced without trial to a defendant. "

Sad truth.

It's amazing what is happening in Colombia with Justice. If we observe the behavior of some judges of the Supreme Court, we realize the common irregurlaridades they produce. If so is our Supreme Court, we can say of judges who have no scruples to condemn a person, without sufficient evidence or in some cases mounted. I think there are more "false positives" in Justice than there were in our glorious army.
